Vastu for the pooja room
Which direction is best for the pooja room as per Vastu?
The answer depends on the school. The traditional school divides the home into 8 directions of 45 degrees. The 16-zone school divides it into 16 zones of 22.5 degrees, so it is more specific and sometimes disagrees. Both readings are below.
These rules are a draft rule set, pending review by our consultants. Treat them as a guide, not a verdict.
Pooja room: 16-zone school
| Zones | Reading | Why |
|---|---|---|
| NE, ENE, E, W | Good | A suitable zone for prayer. |
| SSW, ESE, WNW | Avoid 3 of 5 | A prayer room in a disposal zone. |
Pooja room: Traditional 8-direction school
| Zones | Reading | Why |
|---|---|---|
| NE, E, N | Good | North-east is the traditional prayer corner. |
| S, SW | Avoid 3 of 5 | Prayer rooms in the south or south-west are traditionally avoided. |
How to read this for your home
Zones are measured from the centre of the home, with North verified. A zone the tables do not list is neutral for the pooja room. In a flat you usually cannot move the pooja room, so what matters is knowing which zone it is really in. A North arrow that is 15 degrees off can move it to the next zone.
