Vastu compass
Open this page on your phone. It shows the direction the top of the phone points to, in degrees, and the Vastu zone that direction falls in under both schools.
How to take a reading that you can trust
- Stand at the centre of the home. Zones are measured from the centre, not from the door.
- Move away from metal. Steel almirahs, fridges, railings and the building's own columns pull a compass off. Step at least a metre away.
- Hold the phone flat, screen up, at waist height.
- Take three readings, moving a step between each. If they differ by more than 10 degrees, something nearby is disturbing the compass. Move and try again.
- Point at what you want to measure. To find the facing of the home, stand inside at the main door and point the phone straight out through it.
Why degrees matter more than "east facing"
The 16-zone school uses zones of 22.5 degrees. A door at 80 degrees is in the East zone. A door at 60 degrees is in the East-north-east zone, with a different reading. "East facing" covers both. The methodology page lists every zone and rule.
What a phone compass cannot do
A phone gives magnetic North, and it can be wrong inside a steel-framed building. That is why our full check also matches your plan against a satellite map and compares the two before it trusts North.
