Vastu for the main door
Which direction should the main door face as per Vastu?
The answer depends on the school. The traditional school divides the home into 8 directions of 45 degrees. The 16-zone school divides it into 16 zones of 22.5 degrees, so it is more specific and sometimes disagrees. Both readings are below.
These rules are a draft rule set, pending review by our consultants. Treat them as a guide, not a verdict.
Main entrance: 16-zone school
| Zones | Reading | Why |
|---|---|---|
| N, NNE, NE, E | Good | An entrance in a zone linked to opportunity, health, clarity or social ties. |
| SSW, SW | Avoid 4 of 5 | An entrance in the disposal or south-west zone is read as a drain on money and relationships. |
| ESE, WNW | Avoid 3 of 5 | An entrance in a zone linked to anxiety or low mood. |
Main entrance: Traditional 8-direction school
| Zones | Reading | Why |
|---|---|---|
| N, NE, E | Good | North, north-east and east entrances are the traditionally preferred ones. |
| SW | Avoid 4 of 5 | A south-west entrance is traditionally the least preferred. |
| S, SE | Avoid 2 of 5 | South and south-east entrances are traditionally less preferred. |
How to read this for your home
Zones are measured from the centre of the home, with North verified. A zone the tables do not list is neutral for the main door. In a flat you usually cannot move the main door, so what matters is knowing which zone it is really in. A North arrow that is 15 degrees off can move it to the next zone.
