Vastu for the toilet
Where should the toilet be as per Vastu?
The answer depends on the school. The traditional school divides the home into 8 directions of 45 degrees. The 16-zone school divides it into 16 zones of 22.5 degrees, so it is more specific and sometimes disagrees. Both readings are below.
These rules are a draft rule set, pending review by our consultants. Treat them as a guide, not a verdict.
Toilet: 16-zone school
| Zones | Reading | Why |
|---|---|---|
| SSW, WNW, ESE | Good | A disposal zone; the toilet is well placed here. |
| NE, N, NNE | Avoid 5 of 5 | A toilet in the north zones is read as flushing clarity, opportunity and health. |
| Centre | Avoid 5 of 5 | A toilet at the centre of the home is a serious defect. |
| SW, SE | Avoid 4 of 5 | A toilet in the south-west or south-east zone is read as a drain on relationships or cash. |
| E, W, S | Avoid 2 of 5 | A toilet in a zone linked to social ties, gains or rest. |
Toilet: Traditional 8-direction school
| Zones | Reading | Why |
|---|---|---|
| NW, W | Good | North-west and west are the traditionally accepted places for toilets. |
| NE | Avoid 5 of 5 | A toilet in the north-east is the most cited defect in traditional Vastu. |
| Centre | Avoid 5 of 5 | A toilet at the centre of the home is traditionally a serious defect. |
| SW | Avoid 4 of 5 | A toilet in the south-west is traditionally a serious defect. |
| N, E | Avoid 2 of 5 | North and east are kept clean and light; toilets here are less preferred. |
How to read this for your home
Zones are measured from the centre of the home, with North verified. A zone the tables do not list is neutral for the toilet. In a flat you usually cannot move the toilet, so what matters is knowing which zone it is really in. A North arrow that is 15 degrees off can move it to the next zone.
